Zero Waste Bubble Tea

I never realized I was enjoying mediocre bubble tea all my life until I tried Bubble N Tea in Beaverton. The bubbles are SO fresh and soft – they practically melt in your mouth with the perfect amount of sweetness. They also use only premium loose leaf tea (instead of powder), and offer milk alternatives like almond and coconut.

As much as I love bubble tea, it comes with a lot of plastic. Most bubble tea shops only offer to-go cups, and you can’t exactly skip the straw.

Since I can’t kick my bubble tea habit, I decided to make my own zero-waste option. Here’s what I used:

  • Mason Jar – mine is a 24oz Ball Jar with a wide mouth. You can likely score these at your local thrift store or anywhere that sells canning goods.
  • EcoJars PopTop – I get a lot of use out of this – it’s great for travel and includes a silicone seal.
  • Stainless Steel Straw – You might be able to find these at a local tea shop too! In Portland you can purchase them from Tea Bar and Townshend Tea.

If you’re a regular bubble tea drinker, it’s definitely worth it! Do you have any tips for using less plastic? I still have a lot to learn, so feel free to share your ideas below. xoxo
