I’ve always wanted to try lash extensions, and thought my trip to Italy would be the perfect time. Not having to apply mascara every day sounded like an absolute dream! But finding a vegan option in Portland was harder than I expected. The extensions are often mink or silk, and the glue isn’t always vegan or cruelty-free. I called several places and a few tried to sell me on “cruelty-free mink,” which was a pass for me.

Thankfully Blush Beauty Bar in Portland has a 100% vegan option – the lashes, glue, and even the products used to prep your eyes are all certified vegan and cruelty-free.Blush Beauty Bar has a great selection of natural beauty products, so it was no surprise to see them taking a vegan approach to lashes. I loved checking out the shop before my appointment and seeing some of my favorite brands like RMS beauty.The lash appointment with Abby took about 2 hours. She was so sweet and fun to chat with, and played some relaxing music. I could tell she put a lot of care into making sure the lashes were even and flattering for my eye shape.

I was so happy with the results! Abby used the volume-style lashes and created a look right between “natural” and “dramatic.” One of my eyes was quite red after the appointment, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re doing lashes for a special occasion. Thankfully it cleared up quickly!

I love how much easier my makeup routine is with lash extensions. Being able to swim every day, take naps, and wake up with perfect lashes is amazing! No raccoon eyes.

Maintenance was much easier than expected. For example, many places make you wait 48-72 hours before getting your lashes wet while the glue sets. At Blush, there’s no waiting time! You’re free to shower, sweat, or cry right after your appointment. If anything, you’ll be crying tears of joy because your lashes look so incredible.

To take care of the lashes, I just clean them with an oil-free cleanser and do a quick brush-through with a spoolie brush every day. When I was researching what to expect, a big worry was the lashes tangling or feeling annoying on the lash line. I personally haven’t experienced either of these things. I really don’t even feel them!
