Food Feature | Kiva Cafe

Portland is home to tons of vegan food. If you’re looking for vegan junk food, you’ll find doughnuts at Voodoo, corndogs at Hungry Tiger, and multiples bakeries dedicated to vegan pastries. If you’re into healthy vegan food, we have plenty of smoothie spots, raw restaurants and garden bars. So many choices! I wanted to start sharing some of my favorite places with vegan options, starting with Kiva Cafe. It has a clean vibe with a focus on healthy/organic fare. Definitely worth stoping by, whether you’ve vegan or not!

Location: NW Portland, just a few blocks off NW 23rd Ave.

The Space: Kiva is a large cafe with a spa and gallery attached. The cafe is bright with natural light, clean, and provides plenty of seating. They also have wifi and outlets if you’re wanting to work (but be warned, it can get a little loud with all the smoothie-blending).

Type of food: Healthy, fresh, and light.

Vegan food options: Almost everything on the menu (besides the grilled cheese) can be vegan. They have rice bowls and sandwiches where you can pick tofu instead of pork, and all of their smoothie bowls are vegan too.

11007816_784170148326257_1349942609_nVegan drink options: You’ll find a huge selection of teas, kombucha, and made-to-order juices and smoothies. For lattes, you can choose from soy, almond, hemp, or coconut milk.

My favorites: For something refreshing, I love the Berry Good Bowl. The smoothie base is açaí, banana, strawberries and orange juice. Then it’s topped with granola, fresh fruit, and coconut. If you’re looking for something savory, I’m completely in love with the Habibi Bowl: Sautéed kale, carrots, cabbage and onions over rice, topped with creamy tahini, hummus and spinach.10665439_388645624625121_1928305451_nIf you’re in Portland and looking for some fresh fare, definitely stop by! For more info on Kiva, you can check out their website here.
